Could Not Reach Proxy

Could Not Reach Proxy

Reported via the vpn.free app on 5 Jul 2026.

After investigation it seems to have been client side issue rather than proxy bug, in some cases like running proxy inside TOR or browser with blocked JavaScript will proxy fail.

For correct proxy functionality it is required to have enabled JavaScript.

Update, August 2026.

Since the reply above we found two genuine faults on our side that produce the same outcome, so “client side” was only part of the story:

  • The app needs several seconds after you open vpn.free before it can proxy anything, and the Go button was enabled that entire time. Pressing it in that window failed — and worse, sometimes showed an error blaming your browser. Fixed: the page you ask for is now queued and opens as soon as the tunnel is ready, behind an honest “Starting up…” message.
  • A specific failure while the background worker was being re-established was missing from our retry list, so the app gave up on the first occurrence instead of retrying. Details in Please help me.

JavaScript genuinely is required, and running us inside Tor still won’t work — that part of the answer stands. Both fixes are live.
